Howdy! I am mmmmm’ing my way through my dinner right now. It’s all an too common occurrence that I eat while I’m doing something else, which I know is a big faux pas in the intuitive eating world. Speaking of intuitive eating, that’s a practice I’m trying to slowly build into my life and plan to crack that book (Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole) open tonight! Watch out for a review in a couple of weeks. Not that I’ll be the first blogger to do so, but I’m excited to see how this can play out in my life.
Before I get to my din though let’s go through my day!
I’m in the habit of taking my breakfast to work and eating it at my desk as I check my email in the morning (mainly so I can sleep in a few more minutes!). This morning I packed 1/3 c oats, cinnamon, 1 cup frozen strawberries and half a banana. I nuked it all together using the fruit as a natural sweetener, then added 1/4 cup TJ’s lowfat berry granola from my drawer stash for some crunch! Enjoyed it with coffee from home – that’s my pink tumbler in the back.
My morning was spent in a staff meeting talking about a million things – mostly Oregon’s pathetic Race to the Top application and what our endorsement process for governor and state treasurer will look like. One thing I really like about my organization is that we have really productive meetings and I never feel like I just wasted my time. When your day is jampacked it’s good to feel you really got stuff DONE.
My breakfast must have had all the components of a perfect meal, because my tummy didn’t start growling until about 1:15, over 4 hours later! Lunch was a delicious salad packed from home alongside a Yoplait strawberry greek yog.
World’s lamest salad picture, sorry. In the mix was: spring mix, alfalfa sprouts, cucumber, shredded carrots, reduced fat feta, and 3 oz turkey breast. No dressing for me today.
I had 2 meetings this afternoon, one with the superintendent of one of the districts I organize in and one with a union rep there. The afternoon flew by – so thankful for that on a Monday! I had a skim SF almond latte at my 2nd meeting as well. No pic since it didn’t seem super appropriate. I’m sure you can use your lovely imagination to figure out what that looked like 🙂
I stopped off at Costco on my way home for a tub of spring mix greens and of course spent $30 when I went in for one thing! Also there was a major sample deficit. Note to self: don’t go to Costco on weekdays! I still managed to snag a sample of creamy tomato bisque and a Stacy’s pita chip with hummus though. It was still a good trip because I walked out with a box of 12 apples for $4 and the bagel thins I’ve seen popping up everywhere! I eat at least one apple almost every day and those things get expensive, man.
I was starved by the time I got home at 6pm though since I didn’t really do an afternoon snack so I threw together something SOUPer fast. Haha lame joke, whatev.
Dinner was 1/2 a nuked sweet potato with cinnamon; spring mix with some Newman’s own spray balsamic dressing (love this stuff, chemicals and all!); and 1.5 cups Pacific Black Bean Soup topped with a bit of cheddar and a dollop of plain yogurt. Yum yum! Even though I plan to go to the gym later I had a splash of wine since I was home alone and needed a pick me up in the absence of my smiley boyfriend!
I just picked up my bowl and drank the rest of it. What a barbarian. Can’t leave me alone.
I’m going to chill for awhile then head to the gym for a quick run and SWIM!! If I’m going to do a sprint triathlon this summer, I best get my booty back in the pool. I swam competitively growing up (more on that in future posts) but I haven’t really spent much time in the pool the last couple years. A swim tonight could be a huge bruise to my former swimmer’s ego, but that’s the only way to get better!
Have a fabulous night!!
** Edited to add: I did a 3.2 mi run on the treadmill in 25 minutes before some weird stabbing pain in my foot got to me. Guess I should stay off it for a few days? Also did 2 x 50 crunches on the ball; 2 x 30 torso twists with a 10 lb weight; 2 x 15 hamstring rollouts on ball; and 2 x 25 side crunches on each side. Then I swam a mile in 25 minutes! Definitely going to be doing more of that, it was great.
I also ate a Snack Pack when I got home – feels like being a kid 🙂 Mmm puddin’!
